1 LMU Drive
Los Angeles, CA 90045

Instructor:

Cindy Mediavilla is a retired public library administrator, who teaches part-time for the UCLA Department of Information Studies and works as a library consultant. She currently manages the L.A. as Subject Residency Program for USC and is evaluating a statewide grant program for the California State Library. Cindy has taught several courses for UCLA, including management, grant-writing, professional development, collection management, and the libraries gateway class. Her areas of expertise include outcome-based planning and evaluation, after-school homework programs, library residencies and internships, and the history of California public libraries. Cindy’s MLS and PhD are both from UCLA.

Workshop description:

Learn from a long-time library administrator how to be an effective supervisor by:

            •  Gaining employees’ trust.

            •  Delegating effectively.

            •  Motivating staff.

            •  Managing change successfully.

Discussion will focus on the importance of good communication and how to be a leader, not just a manager.

Who should attend:

New supervisors as well as experienced supervisors who need to refresh their skills.

Parking at LMU is $10 a day. The William H. Hannon Library is located on the north bluff of the Westchester campus of Loyola Marymount University. The main entrance to LMU is located off Lincoln Boulevard at LMU Drive, just south of Jefferson Boulevard. (Look for the fountain.) The closest parking lot for visitors is Drollinger Parking Plaza.
