Engine or Caboose? The Changing Relationship between Archives and Records Management

Understanding the relationship between archives and records management can be a boon, whether your job involves processing archival collections, transferring records to an archives, or helping researchers make the most of these materials.

In this workshop, we will hear from a records manager and an archivist, respectively. Drawing from their rich but distinct experiences in each profession, presenters will:

• Provide an overview of records, from declaration to disposition
• Review the transitional process whereby records become archives
• Discuss the legal underpinnings of responsible record-keeping
• Explore how the digital world is affecting change in these historically paper-based professions

Combining a PowerPoint presentation with lively discussion, this workshop is intended to be a forum where presenters and participants alike will come away with new perspectives and insights that can improve both daily work and strategic planning.

Scholarships available: The Walter P. Gray III Education Endowment Fund Scholarship offers funds up to $200 for registration and travel to SCA workshops.
