Provide essential services to SCA. Committee Chairs are not elected but are appointed by the Board.
Provide limited-time services as ad hoc committees, or task force groups, established by the Board.
Provide representation for SCA on allied groups and endeavors; Representatives are appointed by the Board.
Provide members with an opportunity to discuss a common archival collecting focus, format, or function.
Administers SCA's various awards; develops criteria for the awards, promotes the awards, and selects recipients.
Communications and Outreach
Disseminates information about the archival profession and about SCA activities to allied organizations and professions and the public. Also designs, maintains and updates the SCA website, and SCA social media sites, to facilitate communication among SCA members and others.
Fundraises to support SCA's activities and programs, through both member gifts and outside funding sources.
Provides archival education and professional development; coordinates several workshops each year; analyzes the educational needs of SCA members; and pursues other training opportunities.
Conducts annual elections for SCA Board member positions.
Ethics and Inclusion
This standing committee works to promote and develop a culture that values diversity, inclusion and ethical behavior within SCA.
Finance and Investment
Manages SCA’s assets; advises the Board of SCA's financial outlook.
Labor, Advocacy and Public Policy
Responsible for promoting advocacy in response to key issues that may impact archives, diversity, and the role of archives and archivists within society.
Local Arrangements (AGM)
Manages all physical arrangements of the Annual General Meeting (hotel, event venues, catering, travel, etc).
Solicits new members, renews existing memberships, manages the current interests and concerns of the membership, and encourages participation in SCA activities and programs.
Solicits candidates for SCA Board member positions, prepares a slate of candidates for offices falling vacant within a given year. This is the only committee whose members are elected.
Plans and presents the program of the Annual General Meeting; develops a theme, contacts speaker candidates, solicits and reviews session proposals.
Develops, produces and markets SCA’s publications: SCA Newsletter, Directory of Archival and Manuscript Repositories in California, and other publications.
Western Archives Institute Management
Plans, develops, and oversees the Western Archives Institute (WAI), a two-week archival training program held each summer; consists of representatives from the California State Archives and SCA.
This special committee is tasked with creating, compiling, preparing, and disseminating content to membership and the general public alike in recognition of the SCA Golden (50th) Anniversary that will occur in 2021.
Task Force on Labor Issues within the Profession (2019-2021)
Started in 2019, this special committee is tasked with reviewing labor issues within the archival profession. Specifically the Board is interested in gathering information on how labor issues might result in barriers to entry into the profession, opportunities for professional growth, and retention, and for the task force to suggest ways SCA can better advocate for its membership in this regard.

Task Force on Professional Ethics and Inclusion (2017-2018)
Started in 2017, this special committee was tasked with reviewing the SCA’s need for a code of conduct and to review the society’s websites, programs, policies and statements regarding the need for more inclusive language.

Membership and Website Management Task Force (2016-2018)
Started in 2016, this special committee was tasked with reviewing SCA's needs regarding our website functionality, membership, and events management. The task force will evaluate software vendors who could meet those needs, including Wild Apricot, and then recommend the best options to the SCA Board.

Western Archives Institute Joint Program Task Force (2014-2015)
The WAI Joint Program Task Force was appointed by the SCA President in August 2014. The charge of the Task Force was to examine the future of the Western Archives Institute and implement changes to ensure the long-term relevance and sustainability of the program.

California Historical Records Advisory Board (CHRAB)
As the central advisory body for historical records in California, CHRAB carries out statewide planning and assessment activities, facilitates cooperation among historical record-keepers within the state, and serves as a state-level reviewer of NHPRC grant applications.
California Preservation Program
The California Preservation Program (CPP) provides information, education, and expert assistance on preservation of collections to libraries, archives, historical societies, history museums, and records repositories in California.

The Journal of Western Archives (JWA) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal sponsored by Western regional archival organizations, including SCA.
