First Fridays
Friday, October 3, 2025
12:00 p.m. – 01:00 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time)
Webinar Description:
The 2025 Diversity Forum at the Society of American Archivists (SAA) annual conference in August provided an opportunity for dialogue amongst archivists in a safe (and anonymized) space about the escalating attacks on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA). Questions prompted discussion on how archivists are impacted in their daily work, with the goal of forwarding actionable items to the SAA Council.
During SCA’s First Fridays October session—hosted by the Labor, Advocacy, and Public Policy Committee—current and former members of SAA’s Diversity Committee will share those questions with the hope of generating discussion on ways to support each other and create pathways to action between SCA and SAA. The Labor, Advocacy, and Public Policy Committee will use anonymized feedback from this session to make recommendations to the SCA Board and to SAA as to how these organizations might best advocate for our members and demonstrate the impact of our work to the larger public.
Here’s a link to the questions used at the SAA Diversity Forum that will jumpstart our conversation on October 3: Sample Questions/ Structure of SAA Conversation
The cost is $0 for SCA members; $0 for student members. This is an SCA Member event only (SAA membership is not required). This session is NOT being recorded; notes will be taken and anonymized. If you are attending virtually, feel free to turn off your camera/use a pseudonym.
Please forward any questions or comments to Melissa Haley and Marissa Friedman at advocacypublicpolicy@calarchivists.org.
Registration is open until October 2.
