SCA First Fridays: Roll for Adventure: Bringing Games into the Archives
Friday, June 5, 2026
12:00 p.m. – 01:00 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time)
Are you interested in bringing more games into your outreach? Hosted by the Society of California Archivists Labor, Advocacy, and Public Policy Committee, this First Friday will delve into the role of games in archival outreach and advocacy. Our speaker Reference & Outreach Librarian Dvorah Selesnick will share an example of a game-based learning activity loosely inspired by Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletop role-playing games. This type of active learning can provide an immersive and engaging experience for participants, leaving them enriched and wanting to learn more about special collections. A game is a great alternative to a traditional library tour or show-and-tell table at a community outreach event or can be used as an icebreaker, team-building activity, or an outside-the-box library tour. The first part will be a presentation followed by a discussion on how attendees can bring game-based learning to their repositories.
Dvorah Selesnick is a Reference & Outreach Librarian for the California History Section for the California State Library.
Please forward any questions or comments to Marissa Friedman and Amy Roberts at advocacypublicpolicy@calarchivists.org.
Registration is open through June 4th.
