Archivists are often required to lead, coordinate, or participate in many different projects simultaneously, yet project management is often overlooked in archival training programs. In this hands-on workshop, learn the basic theories and practical techniques of project management, which will help you work with vendors, understand end-users, and communicate more effectively with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll come away with a fresh understanding of how projects should be defined, planned, and executed in real-life situations using simple and free tools.
Who should attend:
Anyone in the library and archives communities interested in developing project management as a skill, including students and new grads.
By the end of this program, participants will understand:
What is a project, and how do ideas get turned into projects?
What are the steps to planning a project, and how is a project plan best represented in writing?
What common pitfalls should be avoided to ensure a project’s successful completion?
What are the best ways to communicate project status to stakeholders?
When and how should a completed project be evaluated?
