The Western Archives Institute (WAI) Management Committee is composed of four (4) members who plan and present the Western Archives Institute each summer and supervise the administration of WAI. It is a standing committee of the Society of California Archivists (SCA).
The committee consists of eight (4) members, all of whom can vote. Membership is as follows:
WAI Administrator & Chair (appointed by SCA Board of Directors)
WAI Associate Administrator (appointed by Administrator)
Online Program Coordinator (appointed by WAI Management Committee)
SCA Board Liaison (the SCA President)
The SCA Treasurer may be consulted on committee activities.
Identifies and selects the Online Program Coordinator.
Identifies and selects the Principal Faculty Member (PFM) and adjunct faculty members.
Prepares the program schedule with the PFM.
Works with PFM to determine which sessions the PFM will teach each year, and which will be taught by adjunct faculty.
Reviews student applications and selects students to attend WAI.
Assesses and selects online instructional tools for the program.
Reviews contracts and licensing agreements with vendors for online instructional tools.
Reviews and updates publications list as needed.
Annually evaluates program operations and makes recommendations for future operations.
A majority of members of the Management Committee, with concurrency of a majority of the members of the SCA Board, can dismiss a participant for behavior that is not professional or violates the rules established by the Online Program Coordinator or Administrator. The participant may appeal the dismissal directly to the SCA Board. Violations of SCA's Code of Conduct will be addressed via SCA's regular Code of Conduct procedure.
