This workshop will provide participants with general guidelines for a range of digitization projects, covering six steps to achieve digitization and digital preservation of print-based and audiovisual materials. By the end of the workshop, we hope that participants will walk away feeling empowered to approach analog-to-digital conversations and digital preservation projects in their own organizations.
During the workshop, California Revealed team members will lead participants through the steps of inventorying, assessing, and prioritizing materials for digitization, as well as determining standards for metadata description, preparing items for digital capture, and providing long-term digital preservation and online access. California Revealed’s in-house workflows will be explored, along with factors to consider when working with digitization vendors, including creating a timeline and performing quality control of digital files. Demonstration kits for audio and video digitization and film inspection will also be available to help participants envision a simple in-house setup. The last portion of the day will be spent workshopping next steps to begin a new digitization project.
Please forward any questions or comments to Rob Strauss and Emily Homolka at educationcommittee@calarchivists.org.
The cost is $60 for SCA members and non-members; and $40 for student members or unemployed/precariously employed individuals. Registration is limited to 40 participants.
